River Oaks Theater, a historic gem in Houston
River Oaks Theatre, a historic gem in Houston, Texas, first opened its doors on November 28, 1939, and has since become a beloved cultural landmark in the city. As one of Houston's last remaining examples of Art Deco architecture, it has long been cherished for showcasing arthouse and independent films, winning the hearts of local film enthusiasts.
After closing in March 2021 due to lease disputes, the theater was saved through the support of the community and new investors. On October 3, 2024, the revitalized River Oaks Theatre celebrated its grand reopening. The modern renovation retained the theater's historic charm while integrating cutting-edge technology.
